Urban mobility systems rely on efficient first- and last-mile connectivity to improve public transport accessibility and reduce dependence on private vehicles. This study investigates the factors influencing public transport preference in Bhopal, India, with particular emphasis on ease and efficiency, infrastructure quality, and service experience. A quantitative research approach was adopted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS based on survey responses from 430 urban commuters. The findings reveal that all three factors positively and significantly influence public transport preference, with ease and efficiency emerging as the most influential determinant, followed by service experience and infrastructure quality. The results highlight the importance of improving accessibility, reducing travel time, enhancing walkability, and strengthening multimodal integration to encourage greater public transport use. Furthermore, investments in reliable services and supportive infrastructure are essential for creating sustainable and commuter-friendly urban mobility systems. The study underscores the need for an integrated planning approach that combines user-centered service improvements with infrastructure development to enhance first- and last-mile connectivity in emerging cities. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, transport authorities, and urban planners seeking to promote sustainable mobility and increase public transport adoption through evidence-based planning and investment strategies.
